Type Locality and Naming
NE Jiangxi-S Anhui. The Tieshajie Formation was named by the Regional Team of Geological Survey of Jiangxi Province in 1982. The typical section is located in Xuguang Town, Yiyang County, Jiangxi Province. Coordinate: 28°25´00″N;117°16´00″E

Synonym: (铁沙街组)
Lithology and Thickness
The Tieshajie Formation is dominantly composed of light gray to greenish gray meta-siltstone and debris sandstone with carbonaceous phyllite and marble. Spilite and quartz kerato-porphyry is developing in the lower and middle parts of the formation. Its total thickness varies from 1000 to 1300 m.
Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
Bottom of the formation is a faulted contact
Upper contact
The top of the formation is a faulted contact. Next higher regional unit indicated on the schematic stratigraphic column is the Lengjiaxi Gr (early Qingbaikouan = early Tonian), but that is in North Hunan.
Regional extent
NE Jiangxi-S Anhui. The Tieshajie Formation is dominantly exposed in Xuguang Town of Yiyang County of the Jiangxi Province
